Present Joys

“We thank the Lord of heaven and earth
who hath preserved us from our birth
for present joys, for blessings past,
and for the hope of heaven at last.”

What I did this week (18 jan 2013)

  • Went back to school; starting with second-semester Package Design on monday morning at 8am. We were assigned a new project and dismissed by 8:30am.
  • Went to the library and picked up some new books; got some reading done.
  • Had the first friendship lunch of the semester, which was well-attended and wonderful.
  • On tuesday morning, had the first Burleigh’s ad class.
  • Moved one classroom next door and did Advanced type, also with Mr. Burleigh.
  • Went to Draping, a once-weekly class taught by Cheryl Steele, a person I really like. It’s required for fashion majors but I was allowed to join. It looks like it’ll be lots of fun!
  • After that, started my new job as an in-house graphic design intern at OhioHealth. Worked for literally two hours and went home at quitting time. Tuesdays are long days.
  • Went back to OhioHealth on wednesday and worked a ten hour day (8am–6pm). It was draining.
  • On thursday morning, had my back-to-back Burleigh classes again.
  • Went back to OhioHealth and worked for three hours. (I have to work fifteen hours a week. How’s that for distributing my time evenly?)

What I did this week (14 dec 2012)

  • Turned in my package design final at 8am on monday; got done at 8:20am.
  • Spent the rest of the morning in the school library, which was all decorated for Christmas and very pleasant.
  • Had a rather stressful tuesday spent working on projects.
  • Learned how to use the sculpture lab’s sandblaster. Lots of fun!
  • Worked feverishly on wednesday to complete my ad and copywriting finals. Drove to school wednesday afternoon to print. Spent all evening mounting and wrapping copywriting finals.
  • Had a walk-around-and-write-on-paper-style critique in Burleigh’s class, then switched and did the same thing for Lutz’ class. And then we were all done with that.
  • Gave mini-presentations about my ad campaigns in copywriting. It went much better than I expected!
  • Stayed the whole time for my last jewelry class. Finished my locket project and quickly made a new ring. Wished Matt Flegle a merry Christmas. Took a class photo and made Christine Hill cry.
  • Said lots of goodbyes. Had a great (albeit very challenging) semester.

What I did this week (7 dec 2012)

  • Had a nice independent study meeting with Mr. Lutz. After we finished, we decided not to meet next week. So I’m all done!
  • Spent time in the CCAD library helping Amanda impose booklet pages, which was way harder than it should have been!
  • Wore a snowflake shirt and red corduroy waistcoat on monday and had people say “you look so Christmasey!” to me all day.
  • Attended my very last marketing class. Good freaking riddance!
  • Took a very unhealthy lunch to Copywriting on tuesday, which included a bottle of Yoo-hoo and Little Debbie Christmas Cakes. Highly necessary at this time of year.
  • Started working on my third and final major jewelry project, which is due really soon.
  • Got a surprisingly large amount of work done in my thursday morning ad class. The pressure is getting to me!
  • Hung out with Mr. Burleigh in thursday’s jewelry class. He was there pretty much the whole time killing time and giving advice. Tons of fun.
  • Drove back to school to hear Mr. Burleigh speak to the Christian group, Sanctuary. It was a very good, encouraging time.

What I did this week (30 nov 2012)

  • Had a generally tough time getting back in the swing after Thanksgiving!
  • Called off my independent study meeting and felt bad about it all day… doing independent study is quite a lot of stress!
  • Had a legitimate breakdown in jewelry on tuesday after realizing I needed to make 20 rivets and having nothing go right.
  • Made a lot of trips to the CCAD library, who had new reserve books for me pretty much every day!
  • Snuck a metal file home to work on my jewelry project, which is a big, jangly necklace. Got it fixed up well enough to turn it in on thursday. Phew.
  • Spent all week and weekend working on an eight page paper for my graphic novels class, which is extremely unenjoyable.

What I did this week (Thanksgiving edition)

  • Had thanksgiving lunch with a giant group of friends at the CCAD Family Thanksgiving feast. My favorite lunch of the whole year.
  • Worked all alone during my break on monday afternoon. Had a last-minute burst of inspiration for my ad final (due tuesday morning). Redid a large chunk of it!
  • Had a very fun time in my tuesday ad class. Turned in my finals, gave a little presentation, and relaxed.
  • Had an equally-nice time turning in homework for my copywriting class. It was very laid-back.
  • Went to another job interview, this time on the 31st floor of a downtown high-rise.
  • Did a ton of wonderful things (sewing, knitting, working, playing accordion) over Thanksgiving break. And not a lot of homework.
